PARIS: THE SACRÉ-CŒUR

Among the most visited monuments in the world, the Basilica of the Sacré-Cœur is one of the greatest symbols of Christianity, welcoming more than 11 million visitors each year. But how was this architectural masterpiece built, on top of Montmartre hill at an altitude of 130 meters?

Dominated by its 83-meter dome, featuring a vast underground crypt, a 19-ton bronze bell and a 473 m2 mosaic, this Neo-Byzantine-Romanesque basilica is truly one of a kind. Begun in 1875, its construction was a constant struggle for its builders, marked by fierce secular opposition, risks of collapse and acts of sabotage.

Through CGI, archives and reconstructions, this documentary tells the story of an extraordinary construction project that deeply divided France.
