MAL DE MÈRES

The birth of a baby is often described as “the happiest moment of a woman’s life”. But becoming a mother is very far from being obvious and easy. For many, it’s a time prone to loneliness, anxiety, doubts or regrets.

At the Hôpital Mère-Enfant de l’Est parisien (Eastern Paris Mother & Child Hospital), the Dr Hébert and his team offer women medical, psychological and social support, helping them through their pregnancy and post-partum. A process that is essential for the well-being of the young or future mother, as well as for the proper development of the mother-child relationship.

Immersed in this medical center for four months, director Maya Lebas captured the daily lives of a handful of women who struggle with the baby’s arrival. In front of the camera, they share their stories and feelings with honesty. An authentic and moving documentary that deconstructs preconceptions about motherhood.
