Buckingham Palace, Big Ben, Westminster Abbey… These jewels of London’s heritage are known around the world. But what is less known is that beneath the British capital lies a wealth of hidden treasures that have shaped the course of history.
From the 19th century onward, London expanded to become one of the largest metropolises on the planet. Each stage of this growth was accompanied by major underground transformations: the construction of a vast sewer system, followed by the creation of the world’s very first underground railway. During World War II, the city’s subterranean spaces became the site of highly sensitive operations – housing Churchill’s secret war rooms as well as those of the Royal Air Force – which helped lead the Allies to victory.
Blending CGI, archival footage, reenactments, and expert insights, this documentary explores the unseen side of London, taking viewers deep into its extraordinary underground world – a true feat of engineering and history.
