Oceans cover more than 70% of the Earth’s surface. They are navigated, exploited, and monitored the world over, yet what lies beneath the surface remains largely unknown. Inside Oceans takes us into four scientific expeditions to uncover the mysterious forces behind the extreme phenomena threatening France’s coastlines.
How exactly do killer waves, hurricanes, or tsunamis occur? Combining rigorous science with field-based inquiry the series looks for answers. From the Normandy coastline to the depths of the Mediterranean, through the French West Indies, we’ll explore step by step the hidden and complex mechanisms behind some of the world’s most turbulent waters.
Over the course of the series, the investigations gradually converge on the same conclusion: these phenomena are not isolated, but are part of a changing marine environment whose effects are already being felt along coastlines. Through the lens of science, Inside Oceans gives viewers the tools to better understand and anticipate the extreme events of the future.
