HOSTAGES IN LEBANON: WHO PULLED THE STRINGS?

This is the secret and previously untold story of the talks surrounding the “Lebanese hostage crisis” in the 1980s, which involved the governments and intelligence agencies of the major Western democracies.

Four hostages, four nationalities, repeated blackmail, and a single actor behind these acts.

Why were these 4 men from France, England, Germany, and the United States kidnapped? By whom? What negotiations and secret operations helped free them?

For ten years, between 1982 and 1992, Beirut was the stage for the kidnapping of Western nationals. Journalists, humanitarian workers, engineers, and clergymen unjustly found themselves taken hostage, sometimes for years, for reasons known only to those who ordered these acts. Behind the hostage taking was a single hand, that of Iran. The Islamic republic used the hostages to draw attention to broken promises regarding arms shipments, especially the most powerful one, nuclear weapons.

The French, American, German, and English governments, among others, were helpless and hesitant in the face of this blackmail of the strong by the weak. They tried everything to solve this intractable problem, namely saving the lives of their nationals while conceding as few of the terrorists’ demands as possible. All of this proceeded in total secrecy, with the public instead being shown an illusory front of common resolve.
