Spanning 750 km across France and handling 80 million vehicles annually, the A6 and A7 highways are far more than mere asphalt – they are the vital arteries of a nation.
Nicknamed the “Autoroute du Soleil” (Motorway of the Sun), these highways carry millions of holiday-goers each summer and thousands of trucks each day. They were the first to connect three major French cities at once: Paris, Lyon, and Marseille. An unprecedented infrastructure project, launched in 1953, that took 18 years to complete. Today, they face a new challenge: adapting to ecological constraints by rethinking water management and preserving wildlife. Since 2023, a massive €80 million project had kicked off to build 19 eco-overpasses.
Through expert interviews, drone footage, and exclusive 3D sequences, this documentary offers a revealing journey into the inner workings of these iconic roads – seen through the eyes of those who travel them, oversee them, and transform them.
