In a lost cave in southern Morocco, a team of scientists has uncovered what could be the oldest piece of jewelry known to humanity. These tiny perforated shells, decorated and worn as adornments 150,000 years ago, are revolutionizing our understanding of the emergence of symbols, art, and culture in Homo sapiens.
These ornaments may well constitute the first tangible evidence of symbolic behavior, challenging our assumptions and potentially repositioning North Africa as a central cradle of human innovation in Prehistory. Through ongoing excavations, we follow the trail of a major archaeological discovery, revealing how a modest artifact can overturn an entire narrative about our origins.
Through immersive storytelling, CGI reconstructions, and a deep dive into the gestures of the earliest makers of symbolic objects, we reveal how these marine beads bear witness to the very first forms of abstract thought, social communication, and identity.
