Caligula. He only ruled the Roman Empire for 4 years, he was one of the most controversial Roman leaders in History, his name is a household word, synonymous with excess and tyranny, but was he really?
Recent archaeological discoveries allow us to reassess the legacy of this controversial emperor: the floating palaces found under Lake Nemi, the temple of Castor and Pollux, and in 2024 the discovery of the ruins of the imperial garden in Rome. Why did he under take such outrageous projects? How could he orchestrate the transport of a colossal obelisk to the heart of Rome? How did these floating palaces mark underwater archaeology?
Through expert analysis and 3D modeling, we explore these impressive achievements. By meticulously tracing the construction process, this miniseries reveals how Caligula left an architectural legacy that defies simplistic and caricatured perceptions of the emperor’s personality.
