Preserving the Rhone, a river of life

Known to be the most powerful of French rivers, the Rhone River has shaped diverse and majestic landscapes over time. Between mountain streams and lowland rivers, this 812-kilometer multifaceted watercourse that crosses nearly a quarter of the French territory, is home to an exceptional biodiversity, including otters, beavers, great crested grebes and even cistude turtles...

As rich as it is vulnerable, this river has been under human pressure over the last two centuries. Its fragile balance has been disturbed and its biodiversity endangered. As for its glacier, it is shrinking and could well disappear before the end of the century.

From its source to its various mouths, this journey takes us to meet passionate men and women who are working to preserve this uniquely rich natural heritage. Thanks to underwater and aerial footage, this film reveals the beauty of this atypical river, and its threatened glacier.
