Over centuries, four critical seeds have become the pillars of our global diet. Rice, wheat, beans and peanuts are nutritious, easy to store, water efficient and endlessly versatile… They’ve conquered the planet! Now, we continue to find ways to evolve their value as we write new chapters in our mutual odyssey.
Today’s seeds are larger, more nutritious, more resistant to disease and pests – and they’re even more beautiful – as the result of generations of careful selection. From the terraced rice fields of Yunnan to the forest gardens of Bolivia and the green oases of Sahel, they command spectacular landscapes wherever they’re planted.
This documentary series travels the globe to meet the men and women who grow and use these seeds for food, health, or even rituals. Through their stories and expertise, each episode reveals the deep and enduring connection between humans and seeds. Throughout the journey, we’ll also meet botanists, agronomists, or geneticists now pioneering ways to further improve them, preparing us for a growing population amidst climate upheaval.
