BREAKING THE ICE

Lison, Auréa, Camille and Marina are former figure skating champions. They spent their childhood and teenage years on ice, complying to the dizzying pace of intensive training and competitions… Until suffering overtook pleasure. Due to physical or psychological injuries, these four skaters decided to give up their sport.

Today, the skater and choreographer Benoît Richaud invites them to lace up their skates again and begin an “ice therapy”. Freed from the cult of performance, the race for the podium and the coaches’ grip, they will learn to reappropriate their bodies, express their feelings and reconcile with their former passion.

A delicate and moving documentary which - with the help of personal archives - paints an intimate portrait of these four young women, while rightly denouncing the insidious violence that prevails in top-level sport.
