History 52'

After the holocaust

World War II in Europe ended on the 8th of May 1945. Hitler is dead. Allied armies have occupied Germany. The death camps have been liberated. The darkest chapter in the history of mankind has finally come to an end – or so we think. For the Jews of Europe, the suffering, the dying, and the grief continued, and still continues, to this very day.

At the end of the War, the few survivors of Hitler’s racial war against the Jews have no place to return to, no homes, no families, nothing. Together with the world’s leading historians – from Ian Kershaw and Serge Klarsfeld to Christopher Browning to Georges Bensoussan – we explore their desperate struggle for a new beginning – and we also look at Germany, and the efforts of the victorious Allies to bring justice to the perpetrators.

As we explore the world after the Holocaust, we also look back at the key moments that brought about this greatest of all crimes in the history of humanity.
